ALICIA'S JOURNEY WITH FA

Welcome to our blog where we try to keep family & friends updated on our daughter/granddaughter, Alicia, who is one of the most adorable five year olds ever! She was born with a very rare & aggressive disease, called Fanconi anemia, which causes bone marrow failure, as well as different cancers . She is currently undergoing a bone marrow transplant to try to cure her bone marrow issues. If you'd like to gain a little more background, please visit our first entry HERE.

Hello Everyone,

I just wanted to give a little update on Alicia, She's doing really well. It's always good to get good news because usually most of the news we get is not so good.

Anyway Alicia went for her check up with the Heart specialist here in Wichita and we got really good news. All is well!!!!!! When Alicia was born she had two holes in her heart, and several mumors. When we went for her check up on Wednesday she told us that both holes had closed and healed completely, and all mumors are gone. YES!!!! She also got her cbc done but we don't have the results yet. (no news is good news, right?) Alicia had a hard day that day. It took two hours for them to run all the tests on her heart. It is very hard to keep a 3 year old to hold still for the Sonograms for two hours, there's only so many times you can play Dora the Explora over and over again before she finally said enough. After they were done with the tests her Pediatrician decided she wanted to give her a flu shot, that really didn't go over good with her. Then I had to take her to the lab to get her blood drawn, the lab is in the basement, and Alicia knows exactly where we are going when she gets off the elevator. Usually she runs right in, she's always happy, even we when go the lab. But not this time, she threw a fit the whole way there. Im just glad that day is over and it ended in good news!!!

We're planning now for Super Bowl Sunday. Alicia and I love to watch football together, Exspecially the KC Cheifs (loosers.) Our whole family is coming over our house for a Super Bowl Party, Alicia is going to have a blast, everyone always makes a big fuss over her, she loves it.

I will keep everyone updated on Alicia and I hope all is going well with everyone.
