ALICIA'S JOURNEY WITH FA

Welcome to our blog where we try to keep family & friends updated on our daughter/granddaughter, Alicia, who is one of the most adorable five year olds ever! She was born with a very rare & aggressive disease, called Fanconi anemia, which causes bone marrow failure, as well as different cancers . She is currently undergoing a bone marrow transplant to try to cure her bone marrow issues. If you'd like to gain a little more background, please visit our first entry HERE.

Michelle update

Hello,
Just wanted to give you all an update. Michelle is doing much better today. She switched pain medicine after we left last night and it knocked her out. Her sister Denise sat with Alicia and will continue to do so until Michelle is better. Alicia is however required to be inpatient to make sure she gets the care she needs until Michelle is back at the RMH.
I talked with Michelle a little bit ago and we discussed her weight gain during transplant being from the tumor. Her oxygen level is around 93 and they keep weening he off saying they just want it to stay above 92. She is on a weaker pain medicine today. She is feeling better today, Her catheter was removed, she showered (with the help of her sister), and she changed clothes. She says she is still having alot of trouble moving.
She asks for prayers so that she can hurry back to Alicia, she is really missing her and wanting to get back to her. Her sister, Denise just updated me and said Alicia is a little confused but doing well!! She just wants her Meemaw. She also asks for prayers for Michelle, she needs them both in the same place to give more efficient care. She has some health issues of her own and will need extra prayers to stay strong.
Thank you so much for checking in.
Krisstina

Oh yes! I forgot Michelle wanted me to tell that she is doing well, she delivered a baby that weighed 9 lbs. and was 27" long. The baby does not have FA! She never seizes to amaze me with her upbeat attitude!

Thanks for updating, Krisstina.
Michelle, I love you "birth announcement". Hehe. Wow, that is some tumour! I am supposing that they have sent that off to pathology as is routine :-). I didn't realise you had gained weight during the transplant but as you and Krisstina were discussing, it would have definitely been the growing tumour. Michelle, I am SO glad that you are up and about at different times and we are praying for you and Alicia...and Denise, we are praying for you too.
Love Charisse

Praying in Seattle!
Psalms 34:17-20 The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all. He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken.

I'm another one that got a laugh out of your birth announcement!
Am so glad that the surgery was successful and that you're getting better every day. PLEASE, give yourself time to heal....abdominal surgery is no minor surgery and you need to be at your best so that you can be there for Alicia. Enough of the "advice"...
Just want you to remember that both of you are thought of and prayed for by so many people and your sister will be there to pick up the slack for now.
Praying for all of you,
Mary Ann
