ALICIA'S JOURNEY WITH FA

Welcome to our blog where we try to keep family & friends updated on our daughter/granddaughter, Alicia, who is one of the most adorable five year olds ever! She was born with a very rare & aggressive disease, called Fanconi anemia, which causes bone marrow failure, as well as different cancers . She is currently undergoing a bone marrow transplant to try to cure her bone marrow issues. If you'd like to gain a little more background, please visit our first entry HERE.

Out of the Hospital

Well we are back at the RMH. They let Alicia out straight from ICU to our room at the RMH. The word was they were short of rooms on the BMT floor. Alicia seems to be doing well again. She is still having problems with her runny stools but all of her cultures are coming back negative so we still have no reason as to what happened earlier this week. She has an appointment tomorrow with Dr Davies so we might learn more then.

I am still in a lot of pain but it is getting a little better. My friend Kim is changing and packing my wound twice a day. It is very uncomfortable to get done but I feel so much better with her doing it. I have an appointment with the cancer doc on Thursday so I should know when the surgery will be after that. I am soooooo scared. They said that I will probably have to use a wound vac in order for the wound to heal after surgery.

I want to thank everyone for all of the prayers and a special thanks to Dianne and her family for the gift you sent me!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will update soon

Michelle,
I am glad to read that Alicia is doing better. I am so sorry about all the things you are going through. My husband (he is an oral surgeon) said that the wound vac is "nice" because it keeps the fluids down and the wound clean. Great for healing. These are his words not mine. I couldn't conjure up the words nice nor great for this at all. I want you to know that we are all praying for things to go well.
Hugs and prayers,
the Fiaschetti FAmily
PS Isn't it the year anniversary for Alicia's transplant today? I hope you have a nice day snuggling together. We are grateful you let us be a part of your journey.

It's so good to hear that both you and Alicia are together at the RMH. I hope that Dr. Davies can get to the bottom of what's causing Alicia's runny stools and that ALL OF HER PROBLEMS will be gone. I'll bet she's feeling great just being with you!!!

I hope that when you meet your oncologist on Thursday and get answers to your questions, that you'll feel less afraid. Just try to have faith and trust and hope...look at all you've been through already...so many people are thinking of you and praying FOR BOTH OF YOU...you will be fine!
And just think...after your hysterectomy, you won't have to worry about getting pregnant again (just a little joke to put a smile--I hope--on your lovely face).

Sending hugs to both you and Alicia and also saying lots of prayers for both of you.
Love, Mary Ann

Hi Michelle,
I am so glad Alicia is back in her room.
Is a wound vac a type of drain in the USA? If it is a drain, then it will keep the wound drained of fluid and able to heal much better. We have drains with different names here. We have the survac etc. I can understand you feeling scared (((HUGS))) Surgery can be scary and having things you are not used to.
Lots of love,
Charisse

Sorry I've been MIA...my youngest decided she didn't need her appendix anymore. Been trying to play catch up ever since. And look at you! You just can't behave while I was gone, could you?
Praying right now.

When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found,
Clothed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne!
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

Sometimes things hit out of nowhere and we don't know how we can handle it. The Lord's known from all eternity every thing that's going to happen and has been preparing a way.
Know that I'm here praying!
