ALICIA'S JOURNEY WITH FA

Welcome to our blog where we try to keep family & friends updated on our daughter/granddaughter, Alicia, who is one of the most adorable five year olds ever! She was born with a very rare & aggressive disease, called Fanconi anemia, which causes bone marrow failure, as well as different cancers . She is currently undergoing a bone marrow transplant to try to cure her bone marrow issues. If you'd like to gain a little more background, please visit our first entry HERE.

DAY +15

HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

TODAY HAS STARTED OUT TO BE AN AWESOME DAY SO FAR. ALICIA WOKE UP THIS MORNING FEELING VERY WELL. IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN FROM RECIEVING BOTH RED CELLS AND PLATELETS YESTERDAY, SHE LOOKS VERY GOOD.

SHE IS ACTING LIKE SHE IS STARVING, SHE HAS ALREADY ATE CEREAL, PIZZA, STRING CHEESE AND CHOCOLATE MILK AND IT IS ONLY 1PM HERE.

HER ANC IS UP TO .4 TODAY AND WBC IS .9. THAT MEANS HER CELLS ARE GROWING!!!! THEY SAID AT THIS RATE WE WILL BE OUT OF HER AND ON TO THE RMH IN NO TIME AT ALL!!!!!

SHE DID HAVE A COUPLE OF BUMPS YESTERDAY, SHE IS STILL HAVING PROBLEMS WITH HER GLUCOSE LEVEL, FROM THE FEEDS AND TPN'S. THEY STARTED GIVING HER INSULIN YESTERDAY AND STILL HAVE NOT GOT IT UNDER CONTROL TODAY YET. I THOUGHT SHE WOULD HAVE A HARD TIME WITH HAVING TO TAKE THE SHOTS BUT ONCE AGAIN SHE PROVED HOW STRONG SHE IS AND WRONG I WAS. SHE ACTUALLY LAUGHED THE FIRST SHOT SHE GOT YESTERDAY LIKE IT TICKLED. (SHE IS SUCH A BIG GIRL) HOPEFULL THEY WILL GET HER SUGAR LEVEL UNDER CONTROL.

I HOPE EVERYONE ENJOYS THEIR HOLIDAY. WE ARE GOING TO WATCH THE FIREWORK SHOW ON THE LOCAL CHANNEL HERE TONIGHT. NEXT YEAR THE 4TH WILL BE AN AWESOME "INDEPENDENCE DAY"

I imagine you're going to have lots of memories next year around the 4th and will be so glad to be over this stage of FA, and so glad to have your independence from the bone marrow failure part of FA! :-)

Glad she is doing and eating so well! That's so exciting to hear! I hope they can get everything working just right. That's awesome on the cell growth;-)
