ALICIA'S JOURNEY WITH FA

Welcome to our blog where we try to keep family & friends updated on our daughter/granddaughter, Alicia, who is one of the most adorable five year olds ever! She was born with a very rare & aggressive disease, called Fanconi anemia, which causes bone marrow failure, as well as different cancers . She is currently undergoing a bone marrow transplant to try to cure her bone marrow issues. If you'd like to gain a little more background, please visit our first entry HERE.

DAY +30

LAST NIGHT WAS A LITTLE BETTER FOR ALICIA. SHE SEEMED TO BE FEELING A LITTLE BETTER, SHE HAS NOT HAD A TEMP SINCE YESTERDAY EVENING BUT I AM STILL HOLING MY BREATH, WE WERE WOKE UP A LOT LAST NIGHT THOUGH. SHE HAD TO GET PLATELTES AND RED BLOOD SO SHE COULD GO DOWN TO THE OR FOR THE SCOPE WHICH ALSO WENT VERY WELL.

DENISE AND CASSIE WOKE UP EXTRA EARLY THIS MORNING SO THEY COULD BE HERE WHEN ALICIA WENT DOWN SO CASSIE COULD SEE ALICIA FOR THE LAST TIME BEFORE THEY LEAVE ON MONDAY SINCE THE FLOOR IS ON LOCK DOWN AND CASSIE CAN NOT COME IN.

THIS IS A PICTURE OF NE-NE,CASSIE AND ALICIA ON THURSDAY NIGHT RIGHT WHEN THEY GOT HERE....................

AND THIS ONE IS CASSIE WAITING FOR ALICIA TO COME OUT OF THE BMT DEPT TO GO TO SURGERY....................................

SHE WAS STILL VERY TIRED... THIS WAS AT 7AM THIS MORNING. SHE IS HOLDING CE-CE (ALICIA'S) AND BABY GIRL (HERS). THEY ARE TWO PINK POODLES THAT SHE GOT YESTERDAY FOR THE AQUARIUM IN NEWPORT KENTUCKY, SHE WENT TO THE BUILD-A-BEAR STORE AND HAD HER AND ALICIA THE SAME ONE'S MADE.

AND THIS ONE IS ON THE WAY DOWN TO DAY SURGERY...............................

AND THIS ONE IS JUST BEFORE SHE WENT BACK INTO SURGERY OF THE THREE OF THEM AGAIN......................
OK I KNOW THAT IS ENOUGH.... I HAVE SO MANY PICTURES OF THEM.

THE GI DOCTOR SAID THE PROCEDURE WENT WELL, HER SAID HER ESOPHOGUS AND COLON LOOKED REALLY WELL, BUT HER STOMACH INTO THE SMALL INTESTANT IS WHERE HE SEEN ALOT OF DAMAGE AND THE CELLS LOOKED ALOT DIFFERENT. HE SAID THE OPENING THAT LED INTO HER SMALL INTESTANT FROM HER STOMACH WAS VERY SWOLLEN AND IRRITATED AND INFLAMED. HE SAID THEY TOOK BIOPSY'S FORM SEVERAL SPOTS AND THE RESULTS SHOULD BE BACK IN ABOUT A DAY AND A HALF BUT HE SAID IT LOOKED LIKE GVHD TO HIM IN A MODERATE SEVERETY IN THE SMALL INESTANT. HE SAID THEY ALSO ARE TESTING FOR CMV, WHICH IS A VIRUS THROUGH THE BIOPSY BUT HE IS LEANING MORE TOWARD THE GVHD. THEY HAVE ALREADY UPPED HER AMOUNT OF STERIOIDS THEY ARE GIVING HER TODAY.

I AM VERY SCARED NOW THAT WE ARE ALOMOST CERTAIN IT IS GVH, BUT I ALSO FEEL BETTER KNOWING ALICIA IS FINALLY GOING TO GET SOME TRATMENT AND WILL NOT HAVE TO BE SICK ALOT LONGER. I WILL LWT EVERYONE KNOW FOR SURE JUST AS SOON AS THE BIOPSY'S COME BACK.

TONIGHT I AM GOING TO TRY TO GET SOME MUCH NEEDED REST AND STAY AT THE RMH WITH CASSIE WHILE DENISE COMES AND STAYS THE NIGHT WITH ALICIA. I HOPE IT ALL GOES WELL SO I CAN CATCH UP ON SOME SLEEP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THERE IS GOING TO BE A CARNIVAL AND GAMES AT THE RMH SO I CAN SPEND A LITTLE TIME WITH CASSIE BEFORE SHE LEAVES AND DENISE CAN GET SOME TIME ALONE WITH ALICIA. ( GOOD LUCK DENISE)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SHE WILL NEED IT.

YESTERDAY WHEN I GOT BACK TO ALICIA'S ROOM SHE HAD TALKED ONE OF THE NURSE'S INTO CHANGING HER CLOTHES AND PUTTING ON HER BRAND NEW DRESS THAT MY MOM HAD SENT HER, I HAD IT HANGING UP SO SHE COULD WEAR IT WHEN WE LEFT (WHICH I HAD READY TUESDAY WHEN WE WERE TO LEAVE). SHE JUST GRINNED SO BIG WHEN I WALKED IN CAUSE SHE HAD BEEN TRYING FOR A COUPLE OF DAYS FOR ME TO PUT IT ON HER AND I KEPT TELLING HER THAT IT WAS HER SPECIAL DAY DRESS. AND THAT SHE WAS WEARING IT ON HER SPECIAL DAY WHEN WE GOT TO LEAVE ( THE REAL REASON IS BECAUSE SHE IS POOPING ALL OVER WHAT SHE HAS ON, SO I HAVE HAD OLDER PJ'S ON HER ) I JUST SHOOK MY HEAD AND TOLD HER HOW PRETTY SHE LOOKED, AND OF COURSE I HAD TO TAKE A PICTURE, THIS IS HER ONERY GRIN..........................

ONCE AGAIN THANK YOU EVERYONE FOR ALL THE SUPPORT AND PRAYERS. AND I WANT TO LET EVERYONE KNOW THAT IS GOING TO CAMP THAT I SO HATE THAT WE WILL NOT BE THERE AND I HOPE EVERYONE HAS ALOT OF FUN AND WE WILL MOST DEFFINATLY BE THERE NEXT YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Glad she seems to be feeling a bit better, and glad the scope went well and they were able to see some things. I hope all the little biopsies will give a much better idea of what is going on and what level of GVHD it is. It's such a scary thing to deal with!

I loved all the photos! They were great to see. She looked absolutely beautiful in her dress...and what a cute story that she talked the nurse into dressing her in it! haha! She is such a spunk.

Get lots of rest and hang in there. Transplants sure are roller coaster rides! Just know we're all here for you guys thinking and praying for you.

Love,
The Clifton's

Michelle,
I am so glad that Alicia seems a bit better. That is good that they were able to do the scope and see what is going on. I hope the biopsies taken will confirm things so she can have treatment and feel a lot better. Alicia does look sweet in her special dress!
